Gloucestershire NHS Trust partners with Civica to improve patient care

Patients supported by Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust (GHC) will receive more responsive and flexible care following a new partnership with global software leader Civica.

The cloud Cito Electronic Document Records Management Solution (EDRMS) will offer clinicians instant access to vital patient information, including larger documents, photos and videos which were previously inaccessible from its Electronic Patient Record (EPR) systems. Better viewing, searching and filtering of document content will give clinicians rapid direct access to the information they need to provide patients with the best possible care.

GHC, which was formed in October 2019 to provide integrated mental health, physical health and learning disability services, has signed a five-year contract with Civica. The partnership will see Civica deliver the Cito EDRMS to the Trust’s 5,800 staff alongside the digitisation of 300,000 paper health records.

The Cito EDRMS platform will be deployed in the cloud to support expansion, flexibility and increased security, in line with the Trust’s digital roadmap to become a cloud-first organisation. It will deliver a real-time, single view of each patient’s records by unifying and structuring these into customisable electronic health records.

Cito will fully integrate into GHC’s main EPR systems as well as Gloucestershire’s Joining Up Your Information (JUYI) shared care record. This will allow health and care professionals in Gloucestershire to access the latest information, with all letters and reports available via one shared system.

Ruth Wethey, Head of Clinical Systems at Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust said: “Partnering with Civica on this new clinical system will result in better patient care across the Trust. As we come out of the COVID-19 pandemic, mental health services are under intense pressure and Cito will give us better information at the point of care to offer the best treatment quickly and efficiently.”

Steve Brain, Executive Director, Health and Care, Civica added: “Our digital health platform will help clinicians to access both new and historical records really easily, freeing up time to spend focussed on patient care. We’re delighted to be supporting Gloucestershire with this crucial clinical systems programme, using smart cloud software to improve safety and efficiencies across the Trust.”

The latest Cito deployment at GHC follows recent major contracts with Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust.
