Wellford moves forward with patient-centred digitalisation to improve the medical cannabis treatment journey

Wellford Medical, the UK’s leading vertically integrated medical cannabis business, has invested in a new digital platform to transform how patients access their current and future treatment.

A new app will give patients greater visibility and control over their treatment journey from digital prescription tracking and payment, through to faster dispensing co-ordination between the Wellford Clinic and Wellford’s online dispensing pharmacy, Newgrove Pharmacy. Newgrove also offers dispensing services to other medical cannabis prescribers.

“Our business model is designed to deliver seamless integration across the whole supply chain – from plant to patient – to provide an unobstructed pathway to the very best care,” explains Joshua Roberts, Chief Business Officer for Wellford Medical. “Our next chapter is focused on making sure that the patient experience is as good as it can be.”

Patient communications is a key focus. Via the app, patients will be able to schedule appointments and attend video consultations easily with Wellford clinicians. They can view their treatment plans and receive digital copies of their prescriptions. They can also instantly track their payment, dispensing, delivery, and collection progress. A particular advantage is that the app gives patients total visibility of all of Wellford’s extensive formulary and product information and can check real-time availability of any medicine.

Wellford is working with Script Assist, a specialist software business, to launch the app and digitalise its clinical and pharmacy operations onto one platform. This digitalisation means Wellford’s clinicians will also see real-time inventory, removing the potential for unexpected delays due to products being out of stock. It will also significantly reduce the prescription processing time, making next day deliveries possible.

Digitisation also offers major benefits to Wellford as a growing medical cannabis business: “It allows us to future proof our clinics and our pharmacy operations to take on more patients and handle high dispensing volumes which are expected in the future,” explains Josh. “This is crucial for us a growing business and will be instrumental in our ability to scale.”

Wellford’s Newgrove Pharmacy plays a central role in the dispensing of medical cannabis across the UK. The pharmacy fulfils prescriptions from a number of other clinics, and as such the investment Wellford is making will benefit the wider sector and improve the patient journey for thousands of patients across the UK.
