BookYourGP launches to transform patient safety and recall systems in UK general practice

A new digital platform is set to revolutionise the GP experience and improve patient safety across the UK.

BookYourGP, developed by Hummingbirds Medical, is the first clinically safe, fully automated patient review and recall system, giving practices a true clinical oversight infrastructure rather than a simple reminder tool.

Current recall systems are widely seen as fragmented, admin-led, and clinically unsafe. Month-of-birth recall models remain common, yet they are non-compliant and would fail a formal safety assessment. With litigation rising by 10% a year and medical comorbidities expected to double in the next 10–15 years, practices are under mounting pressure to deliver proactive, risk-managed care.

The technology aims to redefine recalls by ensuring they are not treated as admin tasks but as the backbone of proactive patient safety.

The platform allows GP practices to organise, coordinate, automate, and monitor all reviews in one place, with full visibility of due, overdue, and high-risk recalls, not just whether a message was sent. It scales effortlessly as patient lists grow and is fully compliant with NHS DCB0129 safety standards.

“Recalls are not just administrative tasks, they are the foundation of safe, proactive care,” said Dr Rakeeb Chowdhury, Founder of Hummingbirds Medical and practising GP.

“BookYourGP ensures every patient is monitored, prioritised, and seen at the right time by the right clinician. This is about improving patient outcomes while supporting practices under unprecedented strain.”

The system comes preloaded with 86 registers and 35 default parameters, covering conditions such as asthma, COPD, diabetes, dementia, frailty, cardiovascular risk, and mental health. In an average 8,500-patient practice, it automatically tracks between 500,000 and 800,000 data points, with risk stratification and safety flags ensuring high-risk patients are prioritised.

Its Skills Matrix matches patients to the right clinician and appointment length, while real-time dashboards give oversight of every recall.

Seamless integration with EMIS and SystmOne via NHS Digital ensures smooth adoption. On average, practices save 3,000 appointments and 500 staff hours per year, while patients benefit from safer, timelier care.

Kate Bennison from Ashton View Surgery, in Leeds, an early adopter of the system commented: “This technology is a game-changer for patient safety. We now have oversight of every recall, and we can be confident that high-risk patients are prioritised appropriately. It means less time lost in administration and more time focused on patient care.”

The platform has already been recognised by Health Innovation Yorkshire & Humber, Propel Digital Accelerator, the RCGP IMP accelerator, and the NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme.
