Clinical Messaging, the healthcare communication app developed by CommonTime, has been nominated in the Best Communication system category of the Building Better Healthcare awards. The award recognises digital solutions that enhance communication within health and social care environments, whilst offering substantial cost and time savings to staff.
The Clinical Messaging app, which is to be rolled out across multiple Global Digital Exemplars over the next two years, revolutionises the way in which healthcare professionals collaborate, whilst providing support for Trust accountability and governance.
Designed as a replacement to WhatsApp and other consumer messaging tools used by healthcare professionals, Clinical Messaging offers a familiar user experience infused with powerful new capabilities. Clinical Messaging is able to integrate directly into electronic patient records to append related conversations, access information such as blood or medical records and provide subscription-based updates. Additionally, the app is able to offer a paging functionality that reduces friction and response times.
CommonTime’s Head of Public Sector, Steve Carvell, explained the importance of Clinical Messaging, “Instant messaging has become indispensable, though current concerns centre around issues of governance and data security. There is a rare opportunity here for IT to transform healthcare communication and drive efficiency throughout the NHS. However, for this to be achieved, organisational requirements must be carefully balanced against user needs.”
This nomination follows the recent statement by Health and Social Care Secretary Matt Hancock that the NHS can become the most advanced health system in the world by embracing the best innovations in new technology. The statement laid out plans to make the NHS an ecosystem for the best technology available, and for a government led HealthTech advisory board – demonstrating a renewed commitment to innovative digital technology.

The award ceremony will be held at The Brewery in Central London on October 31st, and will recognise solutions across a range of categories including technology, estates & facilities management and patient experience. The judging panel will be led by Roy Lilley, a founding member of the NHS Trust Federation, named among the Sunday Times’ Debrett’s list of the top 500 most influential people in the UK.
