As sustainability targets and financial pressures continue to reshape operating theatres and sterile services, Surgical Holdings Academy is hosting a free webinar that will critically examine the true cost of sterilisation containers.
The online session, titled “Containers: Circular Economy or False Economy?”, will take place on Thursday 29 January 2026, from 12:00–13:00 GMT.
Designed to prompt informed discussion rather than promote a single approach, the webinar will explore whether reusable sterilisation container systems genuinely deliver long-term sustainability and value, or whether hidden environmental, financial and operational costs risk undermining their perceived benefits.
Dan Coole, from Surgical Holdings, said: “Sterilisation containers are often presented as the more sustainable option, but the reality is far more complex. This session is about stepping back and looking at the full picture from environmental impact and lifecycle cost to the day-to-day challenges faced by theatre and sterile services teams. The aim is to support evidence-led decision-making, not assumptions.”
Topics to be explored include:
- The real-world environmental impact of container systems
- Cost implications across the full product lifecycle
- Operational challenges within theatres and sterile services
- Whether containerisation supports a true circular economy or risks becoming a false economy
The webinar is aimed at theatre teams, sterile services professionals, procurement leads, and those involved in the management, processing or purchasing of surgical instruments.
Attendance is free, but advance registration is required.
