Hampshire Hospitals launches My Medical Record

HAMPSHIRE Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is launching a new digital system that will give patients more opportunity to manage their own hospital care.

HAMPSHIRE Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is launching a new digital system that will give patients more opportunity to manage their own hospital care.

My Medical Record is a system that allows patients to connect with clinicians and receive information from the Trust online, reducing the need for them to visit hospitals for appointments.

Suitable patients who agree to take part can register using their email address and mobile phone number. Once registered, they can log in to view information sent to them by the hospital and record information about their condition. This supports the opportunity for clinicians to carry out consultations either over the telephone or using webcam technology, reducing the need for hospital visits.

It became available to a small number of patients earlier this month and will be rolled out across Hampshire Hospitals, which runs Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Royal Hampshire County Hospital, in Winchester, and Andover War Memorial Hospital, over the course of 2019.

Alex Whitfield, chief executive of the Trust, said: “We are committed to finding ways of using technology to improve the way we care for our patients. My Medical Record is a fantastic example of this.

“It will allow us to improve the way clinicians and patients communicate and has the potential to reduce the need for patients to attend some follow-up outpatient appointments. The quality of life outcome information we gather from patients through My Medical Record will also help us to evaluate how effectively we care for patients and make it easier to enable suitable patients to take part in research studies.”

My Medical Record is part of the Trust’s three-year Digital Care programme, which encompasses a range of projects that will help to improve communication with patients, reduce the amount of paper used by the Trust and allow patients access to more information, helping them to take control of their own care.

To help, patients and carers are being asked to take part in a survey to give their views on the use of technology in the delivery of healthcare. If you would like to take part, visit www.hampshirehospitals.nhs.uk/digitalcaresurvey for more information.
