RJAH patients benefit from new x-ray facilities

Patients who attend Shropshire’s specialist orthopaedic hospital for an x-ray are now benefiting from improved, state-of-the-art facilities, supporting safer and more efficient diagnostic imaging.

A £324,500 investment has seen two rooms within the Radiology Department at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital fully upgraded with modern, fully digital equipment, replacing technology that was more than 10 years old.

The new rooms use Fuji technology and are now standardised across the department, improving consistency, efficiency and image quality for both patients and clinicians, while supporting faster diagnosis and a smoother patient experience.

Sharon Robinson, Superintendent Radiographer at the Oswestry-based hospital, said: “Our previous X-ray equipment in these rooms was over a decade old, so this upgrade represents a really important step forward for our service.

“The new digital equipment allows us to produce high-quality images more efficiently, which supports faster diagnosis and helps reduce waiting times for patients.

“Having standardised technology across the department also benefits our staff, making training easier and ensuring we can work more consistently and safely while continuing to deliver excellent patient care.”

One of the rooms also includes a specially designed mural to create a more welcoming and calming environment for children who need x-rays.

The artwork has been funded by the League of Friends and was created by Shropshire Design and Print, helping to reduce anxiety and make the experience less daunting for younger patients.

Victoria Sugden, Charity Director, added: “We are delighted to have funded the mural in the x-ray room through the League of Friends.

“Creating a more welcoming and reassuring environment can make a real difference for children and their families during what can be an anxious time.”
