PocDoc announces new listing with Superdrug to extend rollout of revolutionary at-home test for cardiovascular disease

  • PocDoc secures a new listing with Superdrug to make its at-home cardiovascular disease (CVD) test available in 180+ Superdrug pharmacies across the UK and online on superdrug.com
  • Cardiovascular disease (CVD), heart and circulatory diseases are the leading causes of death in the UK, claiming 170,000 lives annually1 – 80% (136,000) of which could be avoided through earlier screening
  • Steve Roest, CEO and co-founder of PocDoc, said the partnership will play a “crucial” role in improving early detection and saving millions of lives

Cambridge, UK, APRIL: PocDoc, the leading UK digital health diagnostics company, has announced today the launch of a major new listing with Superdrug, one of the UK’s largest pharmacy chains, that will see its at-home cardiovascular disease (CVD) test made available in Superdrug’s pharmacies across the country and online.

The ‘Healthy Heart Check’ is expected to be the biggest selling test since the COVID pandemic3 and offers patients a comprehensive cholesterol profile, body mass index score, NHS heart age, and a ten-year risk assessment for heart attacks or strokes.

Test results and overall cardiovascular health risk can be shared directly into the customer’s NHS app, dramatically reducing the time it would typically take for an individual to arrange, undertake, and receive results back from a standard blood test.

With cardiovascular disease costing the NHS £7.4 billion annually, PocDoc and Superdrug are united in their commitment to easing this burden and supporting a healthier nation through a stronger focus on preventative care and improving access to at-home testing. Research shows that early detection can prevent up to 80% of CVD cases, potentially saving an estimated 136,000 lives each year in the UK.

Not only that, the test has proven particularly effective in reaching high-risk groups, such as those over 40, people who are overweight, and individuals who face difficulties accessing GP appointments. Of the thousands of patients who have used the test, 97% have expressed they would recommend the service to family or friends.

The opportunity is significant: NHS research suggests that every digital health check could save 20 minutes of a GP’s time6, so by rolling out tests like PocDoc’s, pharmacies can play an important role in reducing avoidable high GP appointment numbers.

The test is available in 180+ Superdrug pharmacies across the country and online, improving people’s access to critical preventative tools. The test is an ideal solution for patients seeking quick, accessible CVD diagnostics.

The listing highlights the growing success of the Healthy Heart Check and builds on PocDoc’s ongoing collaborations with UK retail partners, including Well Pharmacy, Pharmacy2u and Dears Pharmacy.

Following commissioned partnerships with local NHS bodies in Yorkshire and the Humber, the North East of England, and Cumbria, the Healthy Heart Check has also been rolled out across multiple regions in the UK. In June 2024, PocDoc became the first private diagnostics provider to integrate with the NHS app.

Steve Roest, CEO and co-founder of PocDoc, said: “At PocDoc, we’ve made it our mission to help people detect potential health issues earlier and more efficiently, using our innovative and patented technology with a strong focus on supporting the NHS.

“We are incredibly excited to secure this listing with Superdrug to bring the Healthy Heart Check to even more people across the UK. Cardiovascular disease is one of the country’s biggest health challenges, and prevention is key to addressing it. With our shared commitment to easing the burden on the NHS, we believe this new listing will play a crucial role in improving early detection and ultimately saving millions of lives.”

Craig Watt, Superdrug’s Pharmacy Director comments: “We’re thrilled to be able to offer our patients the Healthy Heart Check in our pharmacies and online, thanks to the new PocDoc listing. Cardiovascular disease is a major health concern, and we’re proud to play a part in improving access to preventative care. By making this innovative test easily available to our customers, we’re supporting the government’s shift from treatment to prevention, helping to ease the pressure on the NHS and empowering individuals to take control of their heart health.”
