Coronavirus WhatsApp service launched by Government

On 25th March, the UK Government launched a WhatsApp Service for people to be able to get information about the Coronavirus.

The burden on the NHS will be reduced with the help of the new and free WhatsApp service which will provide trustworthy, timely and official information about Coronavirus.

There is a lot of misinformation in the UK about the Coronavirus, and this new service will be able to prevent the spread of fake information. It will also help to keep people safe and at home, protect the NHS and help save lives.

The British public will be able to get accurate answers to the most common questions directly from government regarding the Coronavirus with the help of the GOV.UK Coronavirus Information Service which is a “chatbot” service.

Information on topics like coronavirus prevention, symptoms, infection figures, travel advice and other crucial information will be provided by this service.

Government will also be able to send messages to people have opted to use the service.

If you would like to use the free GOV.UK Coronavirus Information Service on WhatsApp, add 07860 064422 to your mobile phonebook and then send a WhatsApp message with “hi” and follow the prompts.

A Menu will be given with various options, and when an option is chosen information and links will be sent directly from GOV.UK.

Prof Yvonne Doyle, Medical Director, Public Health England, said:

This service will help us ensure the public has a trusted source for the right information about coronavirus, updated with the latest public health guidance and providing assurance that they are not misled by any of the false information circulating.

”At difficult times like these, people are using WhatsApp more than ever to connect with and support their friends, family and communities. We are pleased to be able to provide the UK Government with the communications tools to help them answer the public’s questions about the virus with reliable, timely health advice, in order to keep people safe.”
