Charity champions! Hampshire Hospitals Charity receives donation of over £11,500 from The Champion Group to support child health hospital services

After a year of fundraising, construction firm The Champion Group will donate £11,747 to Hampshire Hospitals Charity, helping to fund improvements to child health services across hospitals sites run by Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (HHFT).

The charity, which supports patients, staff and volunteers at Basingstoke, Winchester, Andover and Alton hospitals, was selected as The Champion Group’s Charity of the Year for 2022/23.

Employees at the Basingstoke-based company organised multiple events to raise the grand total, including an 18-hole golf day at Weybrook Park Golf Club as well as a fishing day.

The funds raised will support Hampshire Hospitals Charity’s The Magic Lion Appeal, which hopes to enhance care for children and young people seen at HHFT. The appeal aims to raise enough to redecorate wards, invest in equipment and play facilities, as well as a reconfigure spaces to allow patients greater space to be seen.

As part of their support, The Champion Group, which employs over 300 people across the South, provided materials and scaffolding to the 2022 Newbury Real Ale Festival in exchange for a £5,000 donation to Hampshire Hospitals Charity.

Shirlene Oh, chief strategy officer at HHFT and Trustee at Hampshire Hospitals Charity, says: “It has been brilliant to have the support of The Champion Group over the last year and these funds will really make a difference in helping us to improve our services even further.

“Our charity is only able to support our hospitals as much as it does with the time and support of local businesses like The Champion Group, so we’re truly grateful that they chose to put on so many fantastic fundraising events for us throughout the year.”

Kevin Croombs of The Champion Group says: “We are delighted to have raised so much money for the Hampshire Hospitals Charity. We feel incredibly lucky to have an NHS and are proud of all the staff within it and we know these funds will be well used to support them and the patients they care for.”
